Merbok is a small town in Kedah that also shares its name with the Burung Merbok, a type of local bird. Merbok is perhaps best known as the home for the historical Bujang Valley.
The Bujang Valley is one of the richest archaeological area in Malaysia, and excavation of the site have been going on for many decades. The area contains ruins and artifacts that are as old as 2000 years old, including ancient tomb temples. Most artifacts that have been unearthed are of Hindu-Buddist origin, such as stone caskets, tablets, metal tools, ceramics, and Hindu icons. Many of these artifacts can be seen in the Lembah Bujang Archaeological Museum, which offer visitors a brilliant experience of the earliest days of civilization on these lands.
