Batu Maung is a fast growing town located on Penang Island. Batu Maung is also the location for the recently built second bridge that connects Penang Island to Batu Kawan on mainland. Population has grown rapidly in Batu Maung due to its proximity with the Bayan Lepas Free Trade Zone.
A notable attraction in Batu Maung is the Penang War Museum, built on the remnants of the British fort where many old war relics are displayed. The federal government funded Fisheries Research Institute also operates in Batu Maung, and maintain a medium sized aquarium showcasing a collection of marine life that is open to the public. Snake Temple is another must visit attraction in town, the temple showcases numerous species of snake and is crowded during Chinese festival season.
Batu Maung is a deep sea fishing port, and brings in a ton of seafood daily. Unsurprisingly, there are many seafood restaurants in Batu Maung that serve amazing seafood.
