Ampang Jaya is a township in the state of Selangor. It is commonly known as just Ampang, a common place name in Malaysia not to be confused with Ampang, the Kuala Lumpur district, and Jalan Ampang, which is another major street in Kuala Lumpur.
The most popular attraction in Ampang is the National Zoo of Malaysia. The zoo host more than 400 species of animals with over 16 diverse exhibits such as the reptile park, bird aviary, Malaysian elephants, and many more. The National Zoo is notable for its breeding programs to prevent the extinction of highly endangered animals. Other point of interest includes the Ampang Recreational Forest popular among the locals wanting to take a break from the hustle and bustle of Kuala Lumpur.
Ampang is famous for a variety of Chinese food, from Char Siew, which is sliced pork with sweet sauce served with rice, to Yong Tau Foo, a dish of ground meet of fish paste filled in tofu.
