Located about 40 kilometers away from Johor Bahru, there is a small yet well-known fishing village called Kukup. The village is in the district of Pontian, Johor in Peninsular Malaysia. The population here are majority farmers and fishermen. As a fishing village, visitors can expect fresh seafood available here at unbelievably prices and it is famous for its open-air seafood restaurants built on stilts over the sea. There is a harbor and port available here for the boats and ships from north and south to stop for loading or unloading cargo. The boats are all either leaving for Singapore or Melaka.

How to get there
If you are coming from Johor Bahru by car, do head towards the south direction from Batu Pahat. Another easy way is to straight away take a taxi from Johor Bahru to come to Kukup.To get to Kukup by bus, for those who are coming from Singapore you may board the Causeway Link from Queens Street Bus Terminal or Kranji MRT Station to Larkin Terminal. Then from there, you will need to change to bus Maju Service 96 and stop at Pontian. Upon arrival, you can then take a taxi to Kukup.
