The magnificent Kata Viewpoint (photo by: www.tripomatic.com)
With Andaman Sea as background, Phuket has amazing landscape views all around the island. During your stay in Phuket, remember to check out such picturesque scenery at the top Phuket Viewpoints, whether for a romantic sunset or simply for the beauty of nature.
Phromthep Cape is the southernmost tip of Phuket Island and probably the best place for sunset on the island. Here you will see the wide open Andaman Sea and many offshore islands including Phi Phi Island, Coral Island, Racha Yai and Racha Noi. Not far from Phromthep Cape stands the Windmill Viewpoint, where you can get similar views in addition to view of Phromthep Cape, Ya Nui Beach, and Nai Harn Beach. This is also a great place to spot big and small boats in action including long tail boats, fishing boats and even huge cruisers.
High on visitors’ list is the famous Kata Viewpoint, which is on the way to Phromthep Cape and Windmill Viewpoint. Standing at Kata Viewpoint, you will be amazed by 3 beautiful bays in Phuket, namely Kata Noi Beach, Kata Beach, and Karon Beach. Big Buddha at the top of Nakkerd Hill is another most visited viewpoint in Phuket, where you can get a complete 360 degree view of Phuket Island covering Chalong Bay, Phuket Town and various beaches.
Within Phuket Town, you can visit Rang Hill for bird’s eye view of Phuket Town itself, Nakkerd Hill with Big Buddha at the peak, the nearby Chalong city, as well as hills around Phuket Town. Monkey Hill is another interesting viewpoint in the town. With its peak taken over by TV stations and satellite towers, the views on the way up are actually better than the views at the peak. Along the steep road up the hill, there are several spots to take a rest while appreciating view of Phuket Town and the Andaman Sea.
If you are in Patong, you may want to visit Radar Hill Viewpoint, the highest peak in Phuket. Here you will see the whole of Patong Town, Chalong Bay and small islands around, as well as the second highest peak in Phuket hiding in the clouds.
Last but not least, you can consider a trip to Panwa Viewpoint, a lesser-known yet impressive viewpoint at the South of Phuket. With a 2-level viewing tower, you can see Chalong Bay to the South, Phuket Town to the North, Big Buddha and Wat Chalong to the West, as well as Cape Panwa, Phi Phi Islands, and Koh Yao to the East.
