Long Tail Boats on Phra Nang Beach (credit: railaybeachkrabi.info)
Phra Nang Beach is part of Railay Peninsula, a small peninsula between Ao Nang and Krabi. Its neighbors are East Railay Beach, West Railay Beach, and Tonsai Beach.
Phra Nang Beach is one of the greatest beaches in Thailand if not the world, with soft white sand and clear sea water. Surrounded by tall limestone cliffs that isolate the beach from Krabi mainland, it is a great getaway from the hectic city life. Lie down on the beach and take a rest here, while sipping coconut or icy-cold drinks sold by hawkers around. You can even get BBQ and roast chicken cooked on the spot for you. There are also plenty of massage ladies on the beach to give you a rejuvenating traditional massage. Jump into the sea for a swim or watch rock climbers climbing up the cliffs.
You can go for kayaking in the sea and explore the various sea caves around the beach on kayak, or even kayak all the way to the nearby Poda Island. Back on the beach, you can explore the Phra Nang Cave and check out its limestone waterfalls. Towards the north end of the beach, you can pay a visit to Phra Nang Shrine, devoted to an Indian princess drowned nearby the beach.
How to get there: | ||
Railay Peninsula and Phra Nang Beach are accessible only by boat, which stops at Railay Beach.
From Ao Nang, you can take a long tail boat to Railay Beach, which costs THB80-150 per person and takes approximately 10-15 minutes.
If you are traveling from Krabi Town, you can board a long tail boat at Chaofah Pier straight to Railay Beach, which costs THB100-150 per person and takes approximately 30-45 minutes. Note that long tail boat from Krabi Town is not available during rainy season.
Whether it is from Ao Nang or Krabi Town, the boatman will normally wait until there are 8-10 passengers to fill the boat before departure. You can hire the whole boat for around THB1500. From East Railay Beach, walk for 5-10 minutes and you will reach Phra Nang Beach.
