Also known as Big Buddha Hill, Khao Phra Tamnak is a religious site and a tourist destination famous for its hill top view point. It is located between South Pattaya and Jomtien.
Khao Phra Tamnak is a great place for hiking, as visitors have to take a 50-minute uphill walk to reach the top of the hill. Along the way, you will find a lot of eateries including hawkers on their vans, cafes, restaurants and bars. Visitors make it a point to enjoy coffee and crepe, embrace the breeze at the sidewalk, while watching the peaceful life at the hill. Even before you reach the top of Khao Phra Tamnak, the view of Pattaya city is slowly emerging. But of course, the place to get the best, grandeur view of the city is the view point at the top of the hill.
Before reaching the top, you will come across a Chinese shrine known as “Wang Sam Sien”, where you will see statue of the Goddess of Mercy, a huge metal bell resembling the one in Beijing’s Royal Palace, and beautiful wall paintings with stories.
At the top of the hill stands the “Wat Phra Yai” temple. Here you will see an amazingly huge Big Buddha statue – as tall as a 3-storey building, and gold in colour. The Big Buddha statue is surrounded by 7 smaller Buddha statues, which signify the 7 days of a week. Opposite the temple stands the statue of Prince of Jumborn, the Father of the Royal Thai Navy.

Khao Phra Tamnak is located 2 km from South Pattaya. Visitors can get here by songthaew and mini bus, which costs around THB200 one-way.
To get to the top of the hill, you can either walk or take motorbike taxis.
