Thailand is one of the leading countries in the world known for mining and trading of coloured gemstones. In fact, Thailand’s gem trades date back to the 15th century. At Gem Factory & Shop, Pattaya, visitors will get a better understanding of this trade, and be amazed by the beautifully-designed jewelleries.
Upon arrival, working ladies from Gem Factory & Shop dressed in traditional costumes will greet you a warm welcome. They will escort you to the first section of the factory, where you will go on a train ride with narration. The workers will explain where and how to find gemstones at the mine, and the process of extracting, cutting, assembling, polishing, etc., to turn raw stones into glittering fine jeweleries.
The next section is the workshop. Here you will see workers carefully and painstakingly making jeweleries. Moving on, you will see the shop / gallery, where thousands of jewelleries are on display – sapphire, ruby, emerald, amethyst, semi-precious stones, pearl, gold, silver, you name it. The most outstanding pieces on display here are the peacock & dragon made of crystal, and the Taj Mahal made of mother of pearl.
During your visit, do take note that no photograph is allowed in the factory and shop.
